- Copyright
- ~~~~~~~~~
- This game is PD Freeware, so can be spread to anyone. The game may not be
- changed in anyway. If you're a PD library, you can however add your own
- logo, etc.
-
- Compatibility
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This game should work on all Amigas, but does require at least 2 Meg Chip
- RAM to run.
-
- The game itself has only been tested on the following Amiga setup's:
-
- Amiga 500 Plus 2 Meg
- Amiga 600 2 Meg
- Standard 1200 2 Meg
-
- Hard Disk Users
- ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~~
- This game can be installed onto your hard disk, but has no specially
- written program to do this for you. Use a file management utility such as
- DOpus or XLent and just copy all the files required:
-
- Root (Sys:)
- ~~~~
- Vendetta (Executable)
-
- Libs:
- ~~~~
- Diskfont.Library
-
- :VData/
- ~~~~~~
- (All the .Bin Files in here)

- That's it.
-
- Main Menu
- ~~~~ ~~~~
- The options which can be selected:
-
- Start Game: May take a bit of working out, this one.
-
- Map Type: Several types of mazes available here. Let's go through them:
- Pre-Constructed #1 - 7: 7 Pre-constructed mazes by me.
- You can select any of them (well, why
- not???)
- Randomly Select: Randomly selects one of the 7 mazes.
- Randomly Generate: Generate a completely new maze.
- You never get the same maze twice!
-
- Game Speed: Inclues; Slow, Medium (Default) and Fast. This is not how fast
- the game actually runs, but the movement of the characters
- speed.
-
- The faster your machine, the slower this can be set at, this
- will give smoother movement.
-
- Example: If you have a fast machine like a 1200, then set this
- option to Slow. The game should run reasonably quick,
- and as the Pixel rate is less, the movement will be
- smoother.
-
- If you have a 500/+/600, set this to Medium or High,
- this will give reasonably quick movement rate,
- although you may lose some of the smoothness.
-
- Credits: Lists the people who brought you this game.
-
- Background Gun Flash: When you shoot your gun, the background will
- flash white for a second.
-
- Background Hit Flash: When you've been shot, the screen will flash red for
- a second.
-
- Damage Screen Bounce: When you've been shot, your screen will shake.
-
- Sprite Editor: Enables you to edit the games sprites and save them. Make
- sure you're using a backup copy. More info on this later.
-
- Exit to DOS: Useful for Hard Disk users. Exits back to the system.
-
- Using the Sprite Editor
- ~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
- Firstly, use a backup copy of the game before using this option. Options:
-
- Back to Menu: Back to main menu without saving any changes.
- Save: Save the sprites to disk. After this has been done, the
- game will always use the new sprites for the game.
- Brushes: Three different size brushes.
-
- You can select any of the 16 colours. The colour you've selected and brush
- you've selected will be displayed on screen so you know what you're doing
- at all times. The left mouse button draws with the colour you've selected
- and the right mouse button will automatically select ink 0 - the background
- colour which will erase any mistakes you may have made.
-
- If you edit the sprites and save them, the game will use them sprites from
- then on, but if you load back the sprite editor, you're sprites will not be
- displayed, but the originals will. This means if you create a set of
- sprites and decide later to put the originals back, you can easily reload
- the sprite editor and just save the defaults.
-
- When saving sprites, make sure you WRITE-ENABLE the disk first!
-
- Object of the Game
- ~~~~~~ ~~ ~~~ ~~~~
- Simply, move around the maze, searching for powerups and murdering your
- best friend. You have a gun, why not use it. Powerups will randomly appear
- around the maze. Pick them up if you wish. Your player will automatically
- use them.
-
- Powerups Include:
-
- Speed Boots: Speeds up the player. Each one collected will increase
- the overall speed of the person and of the gun's bullet
- speed.
-
- Silencers: You can shoot your gun in secret with these. It makes no
- sound.
-
- Interceptors: Yep, they go through walls!
-
- That's it! I may add more in future updates. Who knows.
-
- Panel
- ~~~~~
- At the top of the screen will display a panel. It has your energy and lives
- for both players. Each life can take four hits (Energy), then that life is
- terminated. Each player starts with three lives
- ("Oh, lucky you!")
-
- Controls
- ~~~~~~~~
- Two joysticks are required. One in each port. If you only have one joystick
- - no matter! Player one can use that joystick and Player two can use the
- following:
-
- Cursor Keys: for movement (Does help!)
- Space Bar: To shoot that gun!
-
- Automatic Upgrade
- ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
- The game will automatically detect which Amiga model you are using along
- with the CPU and memory. If it finds either some Fast Mem or a CPU of
- 68020 or above, it will upgrade the game with a couple of Rendered Picture
- zooms. Not much I know, but seeing as the actual game was written by me - a
- 500 Plus user, I couldn't really test it or add anything else. Still, if
- anyone wants to buy me a brand new 1200, I have no objections!
-
- Licenceware Version
- ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
- This is PD Freeware. However, I've written a Licenceware version of this
- game. It features a construction kit, more powerups, better graphics and
- probably a bit more. Don't get your hopes too high though, some people
- actually prefer this version of the game to my licenceware version. But
- hey, if you have 2 Meg and like this game, why not buy "Contentious V2.00".
-
- It costs just £2.95 including Post and Packaging. Where can I get this game
- from I hear you cry?
